Why Donate?

Animals Matter

Here at Texas Pet Company, our kids are our pets, and we treat them as such. We try every day to do what is best for them and help others where we can. Every year we pick 3 organizations to support.

We partner and donate to organizations like these:

NO KILL SHELTERS

No-kill shelters are committed to never euthanizing healthy animals, or even animals with illnesses that are easily treatable.
In an average year in the United States, about 10 million animals die in animal shelters. Once your pet is left at a kill shelter, it has on average 72 hours to be adopted before it is destroyed. Shelters are often operating at capacity, and more animals are abandoned each day than are adopted.

sponsor a pet

We may not be able to take a shelter pet home, but we can still support it through pet sponsorship.

Pets that go into shelters are heartworm tested, spayed/neutered, microchipped, de-wormed, and treated for additional medical care they may need. A pet sponsorship will go towards a sponsored pet’s care. A pet sponsorship will ensure care for a shelter pet for up to six months and can be transferred to another shelter pet if the pet is adopted before 6 months.

Pet friendly homeless shelters

Animals provide companionship and a sense of security for homeless people on the streets and can be a really important source of support, of mental stability, among people who experience so much loss and trauma, and vulnerability.

While no official nationwide statistic exists, it is believed that between 5-10% of people living in homelessness are believed to have a pet, and as much as 25% in certain cities.

Many shelters and homeless service providers have strict rules in place around bringing pets into their facilities, as pets can raise questions around allergies and general safety. That means that owning an animal may exclude or deter people from getting the services they need.

Pet rescue groups

An animal rescue group or organization is dedicated to pet adoption. These groups take unwanted, abandoned, abused, or stray pets and attempt to find suitable homes for them. Many rescue groups are created by and run by volunteers, who take animals into their homes and care for them until a suitable permanent home can be found. This includes voluntary training, playing, handling medical issues, and solving behavior problems. These organization do not get as much funding from donors because of tax-formation or are simply too small or unknown.
Animal shelters often work closely with rescue groups, because shelters that have difficulty placing otherwise healthy and pet-worthy animals would usually rather have the animal placed in a home than euthanized. When shelters might run out of room, rescue groups can often find volunteers with space in their homes for temporary placement.
Often times, rescue organizations are organized by pet types such as breed specific, age-specific, size-specific or specific medical conditions.
